Mairi’s Wedding

Written by John Roderick Bannerman

Step we gaily, on we go,
heel for heel and toe for toe.
Arm and arm and row and row,
all for Mari’s wedding.

Over hill ways up and down,
Myrtle green and Bracken brown.
Pass the shilling through the town,
all for the sake of Mairi.

Plenty herring, plenty meal
Plenty fish to fill the creel.
Plenty bonny bairns as well
That’s the toast of Mairi.

Cheeks are bright as rowans are,
brighter far than any star.
Fairest of them all by far,
is my darling Mairi.
